Currently a Doctorate of Pharmacy (PharmD) is required for a pharmacist career. These programs are typically 4 years long and no not always require a bachelors before matriculation into the program. Students can typically enroll after 2 or 3 years of undergraduate schooling. There is a specialized entrance exam for pharmacy programs call the PCAT, the Pharmacy College Admission Test. This is comparable to the MCAT for medical school. The PCAT is a common requirement for applications along with the following materials:

  • Completed pre-requisite courses
  • PCAT Test scores
  • Pharmacy Experience/Observation Hours
  • Letters of Recommendation
  • Interview
  • Personal Statement
  • **NOTE that many schools require applications to be submitted through the Pharmacy College Application Service (PharmCAS). Schools may require that your PharmCAS application is VERIFIED by the application service by the school's deadline, which can take up to 6 weeks after all documents have been submitted. There are fees starting at $150 attached to the PharmCAS application to keep in mind. The price increases depending on the number of schools you apply to using the service.
