Denise Shereff, MLIS, AHIP, Instructor, School of Information, dshereff@usf.edu
Ms. Shereff came to USF SI from the Pediatrics Epidemiology Center (PEC) of USF’s College of Medicine where she served as a Health Information and Communications Officer. She received her MLIS from the University of South Carolina and completed the National Library of Medicine Spring 2010 fellowship program in BioMedical Informatics at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, Massachusetts. She holds distinguished-level membership in the Medical Library Association’s Academy of Health Information Professionals and Level 2 Consumer Health Information Specialization. She is currently enrolled in the USF Department of Communication’s Ph.D. program, studying Health Communication. She is an active member of the School of Information faculty and holds leadership positions in local, state and national professional organizations, including: Medical Library Association, Consumer and Patient Health Information Section (Treasurer), Florida Health Sciences Library Association (Past-President), Suncoast Information Specialists (Past-President), and Florida Library Association. Ms. Shereff currently teaches the following courses: LIS 5020 Foundations of Library and Information Science This course provides an introduction to the study of library service; history; organization; specialized literature; outstanding leaders; current trends, issues, and problems. Place of the library in society with its contributions to that society. LIS 5937 Health Information Sources and Services (cross listed as LIS 4930) This course covers a variety of topics in such areas as collection development, reference services, technical services, and administration in a health science information environment. LIS6475 Health Science Librarianship This course covers all aspects of health science librarianship, including administration, acquisition, organization, and use of information resources for persons in the health fields such as physicians, medical students, nursing students, allied health personnel and students, and researchers. Field trip may be required. LIS 6496 Supervised Fieldwork This course provides supervised experience in an approved cooperating library. Includes practice work, seminar sessions and individual conferences, a progress report, and a final report on the field experience.
